Industrialized

By David Donahue

Way out in the fine art city
Where dreams are lost
And sleep isn't easy
I'm burnt out on the false hopes
That built me up so long ago
Another day without you
And I still don't know my way home

With the sunlight fading fast
The streetlights ignite with life
Casting down a raging orange glow
That finds its way to the concrete underneath
Disturbing the silence
With the thought of a thousand weeks
Of lost and cold in a place of fractured souls

This ain't home
It never was
Building up the homesick inside of me
I'm longing for the shores that meant so much
And for all the friends that kept in touch
I'm sick and tired of being alone
Why do we have to grow so old?
Why can't we stay young forever?

Cry out to the Seven Sisters
Bursting through the smog infested sky
They're the lucky ones
While sending in their light from outer space
I like to think of a place I call my own
And from there the stars don't ever seem to fade

This ain't home
It never was
Building up the homesick inside of me
I'm longing for the shores that meant so much
And for all the friends that kept in touch
I'm sick and tired of being alone
Why do we have to grow so old?
Why can't we stay young forever?

I wouldn't have ever made it past the Sagamore
If it wasn't for that hopeless failure at my feet
Reminding me of all the reasons why I shouldn't stay
Just one more day
Just one more day
I had to get myself away from that grocery store
Away from pumping gas, making change and counting cars
It was time for me to take that giant leap
To try my life out somewhere new

Don't you ask me why I left
I'll tell you again
It was for the best
I wanted to try my life out somewhere else
You wouldn't want me to beat you
In Smash again
Or do you?

This ain't home
It never was
Building up the homesick inside of me
I'm longing for the shores that meant so much
And for all the friends that kept in touch
I'm sick in tired of being alone
Why do we have to grow so old?
Why can't we stay young forever?

This is a city that never sleeps
With all its lights burning throughout the night
I just want to close my eyes
Just let me sleep
Just let me sleep
Just let me sleep
And I'll come home to you

Take me on the old back roads
To the forest and the glades
And the overgrown meadow
Sing to me real, real slow
On the banks of the river flowing
Take the time to feel the love that's growing
